From UNHQ: UNA-W Leaders Attend the UN Town Hall for the Next Secretary-General
This July, our Vice President, Nikolina Gelmanovski, and Young Professionals Co-Chair, Angela Matthews, attended Bloomberg's The Next Secretary-General Town Hall at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event featured candidates for the next UN Secretary-General discussing their priorities as the UN prepares to address increasingly complex global challenges.
The Secretary-General selection process begins with nominations by UN Member States, followed by candidates submitting vision statements, CVs, and campaign financing disclosures. The President of the UN General Assembly then convenes public, webcast dialogues with each candidate before the Security Council conducts a series of straw polls and ultimately recommends a candidate for appointment by the General Assembly.
