UNA Westchester leads programs that educate, mobilize, and connect our community around the work of the United Nations. From youth leadership to local advocacy, each program offers a concrete way to get involved and make an impact.
Young Professionals
The UNA Westchester Young Professionals (YP) Committee brings together emerging leaders across Westchester who are passionate about the United Nations and creating positive change in their communities and beyond. We connect young professionals through educational programs, advocacy, networking, and community action focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our activities explore global challenges—from peace and human rights to sustainable development—and highlight opportunities to turn global priorities into local impact. By fostering meaningful connections, expanding awareness, and encouraging active participation, the YP Committee helps cultivate the next generation of informed, engaged leaders committed to advancing the United Nations’ mission.
Education
The Education Committee creates opportunities for our community to learn, connect, and engage with the United Nations and the global issues shaping our world. Through educational programs, events, and conversations, we bring the work of the UN to life and explore the principles, priorities, and goals of the UN Charter.
We welcome people of all backgrounds and interests to discover how international issues connect to our local community and everyday lives. By fostering curiosity, informed dialogue, and greater understanding, the Committee helps build a more engaged community of UN supporters and inspires individuals to become informed participants in creating a more peaceful, sustainable, and equitable world.
Model UN
The UNA Westchester Model UN Program introduces students and community members to the work of the United Nations through experiential learning, discussion, and engagement with global issues. Participants gain a deeper understanding of the UN system, its principles, and the goals of the UN Charter while exploring international challenges and the role of multilateral cooperation.
Through Model UN activities, the program encourages participants to think critically, consider diverse perspectives, and develop an informed appreciation for diplomacy and global affairs. By bringing the UN experience into the local community, the program helps inspire the next generation of globally engaged citizens and supporters of the United Nations.
CEDAW
The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is an international treaty adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly. Over fifty countries have ratified the Convention to date; the United States has signed, but not ratified.
Westchester County was the first county in New York State to adopt a CEDAW resolution. Now, the United Nations Association of Westchester is lobbying at the state and national level for the United States to ratify CEDAW. In this video, Young Professional Julianne Wang outlines the importance of CEDAW and her mission to raise awareness and action around CEDAW locally and nationally.
